soybean (Glycine max; BEAN FAMILY [Fabaceae]) Erect, sturdy, 2-6' annual with some of the shoots vine-like. Flowers white or purple; pod 2-3" long on a very short stalk. Round seeds 2-4 per pod, globose, green, brown, yellow, or black. Leaflets 3, ovate to narrow-ovate, 3-6" long, entire. Cultivated for forage, human food and oil. [077]
