Vaccinium macrocarpon, V. oxycoccos; cranberry [Ericaceae]  Small, native, trailing shrubs with short branches ascending from horizontal stems.  Tiny (<½"), alternate, evergreen leaves.  Nodding pinkish flowers in early summer, with 4 recurved, petal-like lobes.  Stamens converge to a point, forming a cone that gives the flower a shooting star appearance.  Fruit a disproportionately large (½") acidic red berry.  The two species differ in flower position and somewhat in size.  Both are found in bogs.  V. macrocarpon is extensively cultivated in central Wisconsin.  [114]
