Cornus canadensis;
bunchberry
[Cornaceae]
Low-growing native perennial herb with a woody rhizome.
Leaves opposite but appearing to be a whorl of 4-6 at top of
stem, with distinctive, conspicuous veins.
One or 2 pairs of tiny leaves lower on the stem.
Cluster of small, inconspicuous, flowers surrounded by 4 large
white petal-like bracts in spring and early summer.
Bright red berries in a tight terminal “bunch” ripen in late
summer. Moist forests,
bogs.
