Impatiens capensis, I. pallida;

Two native species of 2-6' tall
annuals. Flowers orange (I.
capensis) or yellow (I.
pallida), about 1" long, drooping from long stalks and with a short
inward-curved spur. Fruit
is a narrow capsule that explodes when ripe.
The coarsely toothed succulent leaves are oval or elliptical, and
the succulent stems are translucent.
Moist woods, meadows, and streambanks.
Flowers in summer and early fall.
