Cicuta maculata; water-hemlock [Apiaceae]  Tall (to 7'), HIGHLY POISONOUS native biennial or perennial.  Stout, branched, hollow stems often purplish at nodes.  Roots tuberous, sweet smelling and deadly poisonous.  Flowers small and white, arranged in irregular, 3" wide, flat-topped, compound umbels.  Alternate leaves 2 or 3 times pinnately compound, with broad, toothed leaflets.  Common and conspicuous plant of ditches, wet meadows, woods, and marshes.  Flowers in summer and early fall.  [146]
