Hemerocallis fulva;
daylily [Hemerocalidaceae]
Introduced perennial herb consisting
of a 2-4’ tall rosette of leaves and flowering stalks.
Leaves basal, linear, floppy, tapering
gradually to a point.
Erect flowering stalks arise from
center of rosette, growing taller than the leaves and bearing a terminal
inflorescence of orange flowers in mid-summer.
Each flower 6-parted, to 4” wide, and
lasting a single day.
A long lived and persistent plant of
gardens, roadsides, cemeteries, and old homesteads.
