Pteridium aquilinum;
bracken fern
[Dennstaedtiaceae]
Very
common strong and coarsely toothed fern with worldwide distribution.
Large leaves triangular in outline,
twice compound, largest divisions apparently into three nearly equal
parts, and divided into pinnae and pinnules.
Sori continuous along, and partly
covered by, leaf margins of the pinnules.
Open woods and woodland openings,
often on poor soil.
