Osmunda claytoniana; interrupted fern [Osmundaceae]  Large pinnate fronds, with deeply lobed pinnae shorter near the tip and base, give each frond a generally elliptic outline.  Fertile fronds taller (3’ or more) with “interruptions” consisting of highly modified fertile pinnae which ripen to dark brown.  Common along wooded edges, often on drier sites than the previous two species.  [009]
