Geography 101
The Physical Environment
Online Section
Information Sheet

The online section of Geography 101 is primarily designed for those wanting more flexibility and control over their learning.  Course content is delivered through online audio and video programs, textbook and online readings. Labs are submitted online. Testing is done online as well. All content is accessible through Desire To Learn (D2L) https://uwsp.courses.wisconsin.edu.

Online learning is not for everyone. You should be self-motivated and able to complete work in a timely fashion. The advantage of taking a course online is its flexibility. You don't have to come to class at a particular time and can schedule your learning on your terms, for the most part.  Be prepared to spend approximately 2-3 hours per day (possibly more during the summer session) completing the assigned reading and laboratory exercises (20+ depending on semester), and studying for exams.

You will receive an informational email from the instructor shortly before the start of the semester with further instructions.

Hardware & Software requirements.

No special hardware or software is required to take the Internet section of Geography 101 if you use computers in a campus computer lab. You will need a set of headphones to listen to audio/video programs at these computer stations.  If you live off-campus and want to complete the course, the latest versions of the following software should be installed on your computer:

Connecting to the course site should be done with a high-speed connection, though a dial-up connection through a local Internet service provider will be fine for most work (but slow) if you live off-campus.
