Asclepias syriaca;
common milkweed [Apocynaceae]
3-6' native perennial with milky juice.
Conspicuous drooping umbels of pink to cream flowers, which have
the distinctive characteristics of the family.
Thick, opposite, elliptical to oblong leaves.
Large, rough pods held erect on downward-pointing stalks.
Roots sprout to form colonies in meadows, fields, prairies, and
roadsides throughout the state.
Flowers in summer.
