Osmunda cinnamomea; cinnamon fern [Osmundaceae]  Large, green sterile fronds (to 4’) in graceful circles, surrounding distinct fertile fronds which develop in late spring.  Sterile fronds with pinnately lobed pinnae.  Fertile fronds shorter and narrower, turning cinnamon color when mature then falling to the ground after spore dispersal.  Common in moist, shaded sites statewide.  [008]
