Lonicera spp.; honeysuckle
[Adoxaceae]
Upright shrubs (to 15’) or twining woody
vines with papery bark, opposite entire leaves, fragrant tubular
flowers, and red fruits.
Roughly a dozen species are in our flora plus several hybrids.
Several are native (mostly vines), others introduced.
Four alien bush honeysuckle species are extremely invasive and
can dominate habitats in which they become established.
