Asclepias tuberosa; butterfly weed [Apocynaceae]  1-3' native perennial.  Conspicuous erect umbels of bright orange flowers, which have the distinctive characteristics of the family.  Linear to lance-like leaves alternate on stem, opposite on branches.  Road edges, sandy woods, and prairies.  Flowers in mid-summer.  [119]
