Populus deltoides; cottonwood [Salicaceae]  Tall (75-100'), very fast growing tree with dark, deeply furrowed bark.  Leaves are broadly triangular, 3-6" long and almost as wide, with coarsely rounded teeth.  Mature bark is dark gray and furrowed.  Cottonwoods are phreatophytes, extending their roots down to the water table.  [058]
