Anemone
acutiloba, A. americana;
hepatica
[Ranunculaceae]
Small
perennial herb with conspicuous bluish to white or pink flowers in early
spring.
The apparent petals are actually
sepals, and what seem like sepals are technically bracts.
Named for the liver-like shape
(sometimes even color), of the leaf, which is typically 3-lobed and persists through
the winter.
Occurs in rich woods.
The 2 species in Wisconsin differ
principally in shape of leaf lobes.
