Teaching:

I teach one-half of the lectures and lab for Fish Population Dynamics (Water 353/553). I also teach two senior-level courses in fishery science, one entitled Fisheries Research (Water 483), which provides training in fisheries techniques in the context of the research process, and another entitled Fishery Management (Water 484), which provides training in the process of fishery management.

Research:

My research is focused on applied, rather than esoteric, areas of fishery science, within the realm of fish population dynamics, predator-prey interactions, and fishery management. I have ongoing research on the population dynamics and fishery management of lake trout in Lake Superior. To the right, my colleague Chuck Bronte is holding a wild lake trout from Stannard Rock in Central Lake Superior. I also research the population dynamics of walleye in northern Wisconsin.

Service:

I advise undergraduates who declare an interest in emphasizing fisheries in the College of Natural Resources. We currently average 75 undergraduates who are emphasizing fisheries in the college. I presently serve as a U.S. Commissioner to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, chair the GLFC Sea Lamprey Integration Committee, and serve as member of the GLFC Sea Lamprey Research Board.
