Executive Director's Letter
Last year’s story line in the Paper Science Foundation’s annual report was the celebration of our 40 years of supporting engineering students at UWSP. Those attending the banquet, found it both enjoyable and interesting. The pre-recorded keynote address from our first department Chair, Dr. Mike Kocurek, was well done and very entertaining. (Dr. Kocurek will be here at UWSP, in person, next year for our banquet and awards dinner, September 22, 2016)
This year we returned to a renovated SentryWorld golf course and banquet center for our 41st year’s venue. It was beautiful. Attendance was great again at both events. We had a record number of golfers participate in our golf fundraiser and our supporters sponsored every hole on the course; see a few examples on page 16.
The Board of Directors approved over $75,000 in scholarships and awards for our engineering students for the 2015-2016 academic year. The last few years have seen a slow and steady increase in student numbers in Paper Science & Engineering. This will soon change. Our next challenge will be to raise the necessary funds to support the significant increase in engineering students enrolling at UWSP, due to the recently approved Chemical Engineering program. This will really boost our PS&E numbers. The entire Board will be working diligently to meet this ‘good news’ challenge head on. The world needs more engineers; the paper industry needs more great engineers. With your help, we can supply them.
