Meeting the
Physical and Mental Health Needs of Veterans Returning From Iraq and
Afghanistan
At UWSP, student Veterans have access to basic clinical physical health services at the UWSP Health Service. Doctors and nurses are on staff. Counseling is also available for student Veterans at the UWSP Counseling Center.
In addition, Veterans have access to a visiting counselor who is an enlisted soldier with active duty experience from the VA’s Vet Center. This counselor holds office hours on campus the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. While the counselor is a VA employee, these meetings are confidential and no information can be shared with your unit. For more information, contact Ann Whipp at awhipp@uwsp.edu or call 715-295-8947.
To gain access to VA medical health services, see your local County Veterans Service Officers (CVSO’s). In Portage County, contact Mike Clements at 715-346-1310.
Upon return from active duty we recommend all Veterans see their CVSO’s and register for VA Health Insurance.
