Professional Biography:

Jeana L. Magyar-Moe received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas.  She is a Katz Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point (UWSP) where she is a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow and Scholar, and the recipient of the 2006 and 2013 UWSP University Excellence in Teaching Awards, 2007 University Scholar Award, 2009 University Service Award, and five University Leadership Mentor Awards. She also served as the Distinguished Lecturer for the 2007 University Evening Celebration of Faculty Excellence. Dr. Magyar-Moe’s research interests include positive psychology, diversity and social justice issues, therapy process and outcome, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She was an invited scholar and fellow at the 2002 and 2003 International Positive Psychology Summits and an Invited Speaker at the 2007 Gallup Global Well-Being Summit and 2008 Inaugural Positive Psychology Forum and was awarded the APA Division 17 Shane J. Lopez Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Positive Psychology.  Dr. Magyar-Moe published a book entitled Therapist’s Guide to Positive Psychological Interventions (Elsevier Academic Press) and has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters, including a Major Contribution (2006) and Special Issue (in press) on Positive Psychology in The Counseling Psychologist, chapters in the Handbook of Positive Psychology (Snyder & Lopez), Positive Psychological Assessment: A Handbook of Models and Measures (Lopez & Snyder), Positive Psychology in Practice (Linley & Joseph), Counseling Psychology and Optimal Human Functioning (Walsh), The Biennial Review of Counseling Psychology (Walsh), Cognitive Behavior Therapy: Core Principles for Practice (O'Donohue & Fisher), Activities for Teaching Positive Psychology: A Guide for Instructors (Froh & Parks), Positive Psychology of Love (Hojjat & Cramer), Positive Psychology on the College Campus (Wade), Handbook of Positive Psychological Interventions (Parks), and Perspectives on the Intersections of Multiculturalism and Positive Psychology (Edwards & Pedrotti). In addition to teaching and scholarly work, Dr. Magyar-Moe, who is also a Licensed Psychologist, provides counseling and therapy to community clients (at Riverwood Counseling Associates of Stevens Point), engages in educational and business consulting, serves as the Chief Scientific Advisor for Optilife Technologies, Inc. (San Deigo), and is a sport psychologist for athletes and athletic teams at UWSP. Magyar-Moe is the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the National Wellness Institute, is a member of The International Positive Psychology Association, the Western Positive Psychology Association, and The American Psychological Association (APA). As a member of Division 17 of the APA: The Society of Counseling Psychology, she serves as the Past-Chair of the Positive Psychology Section.
