UWSP Paper Machine Educational Goal
![]() |
The Department of Paper Science and Engineering is committed to educating the best process engineers in the paper industry. It has always stressed a rigorous and demanding curriculum. With its paper machine, actual hands-on experience can be incorporated into the classroom. As a matter of fact, this new paper machine will be the classroom. It will serve our undergraduates in many ways:
- As a demonstration machine for freshman in the "Introduction to Pulp and Paper Processes" course.
- As a source of paper for testing in the sophomore "Introduction to Pulp and Paper Laboratory Methods" course.
- As a means of producing different grades in the "Paper and Fiber Physics" course.
- As a means of exploring wet-end chemistry in the "Colloids and Surface Phenomena" course.
- And as a platform for all the engineering courses to demonstrate basic process concepts and explore actual operational control.
And it will also serve the Paper Industry in at least two key capacities:
- Hands-on Continuing Education for new employees.
- Private trials and testing.
