UWSP Paper Machine Educational Goal

UWSP Paper Machine

The Department of Paper Science and Engineering is committed to educating the best process engineers in the paper industry. It has always stressed a rigorous and demanding curriculum. With its paper machine, actual hands-on experience can be incorporated into the classroom. As a matter of fact, this new paper machine will be the classroom. It will serve our undergraduates in many ways:

  • As a demonstration machine for freshman in the "Introduction to Pulp and Paper Processes" course.

  • As a source of paper for testing in the sophomore "Introduction to Pulp and Paper Laboratory Methods" course.

  • As a means of producing different grades in the "Paper and Fiber Physics" course.

  • As a means of exploring wet-end chemistry in the "Colloids and Surface Phenomena" course.

  • And as a platform for all the engineering courses to demonstrate basic process concepts and explore actual operational control.

And it will also serve the Paper Industry in at least two key capacities:

  • Hands-on Continuing Education for new employees.

  • Private trials and testing.
