UW-Stevens Point completes administrative appointments
The appointments of James Haney as interim dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication and
Gerard McKenna as interim head of the Division of Communication complete a recent series of
administrative leadership changes at UW-Stevens Point.
Haney began his service at UWSP in 1981, and left in 1991 to serve as communication director for the
Wisconsin Department of Justice and press secretary to then-Attorney General Jim Doyle. He returned to
UWSP in 2000 as has served as head of the communication division and associate dean of the College of
Fine Arts and Communication since 2006.
Haney holds a bachelor’s degree from Ripon College and master’s and doctorate from the University of
Iowa. He fills the dean’s position following the appointment of Jeffrey Morin as interim
provost.
McKenna takes on the duties of head of communication after retiring from UWSP in 2005. He served as
dean of Fine Arts and Communication for 16 years.
In other recent appointments, UWSP named Christopher Cirmo dean of the College of Letters and Science.
He comes to the university from the State University of New York at Cortland.
Gregory Summers, associate professor and chair of the department of history, was named the Associate
Vice Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Academic Programs in the Office of Academic
Affairs.
