Jeffrey Morin named UWSP’s interim provost
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has named Jeffrey Morin as the Interim Provost and Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective June 1, 2009, according to Provost Mark Nook, who will
become the university’s interim chancellor on that day.
The provost is the university’s chief academic officer.
“The university is facing several challenges over the coming year, and I am looking forward to working
with Jeff and the entire campus community to find solutions that will help us to continue to excel at
meeting the needs of our students,” Nook said.
Morin is the dean of UWSP’s College of Fine Arts and Communication. He joined the university in 1996 as
a faculty member in the Department of Art and Design. He served as chair of the department from 2000 until
2005 when he was appointed dean. As dean Morin has led the college through a successful strategic planning
process and strengthened the university’s image as a center for the arts in Central Wisconsin.
Morin received his Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts degrees from UW-Madison in 1986 and 1985,
respectively, after having earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Arts, Temple
University in 1983. He was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga from 1988 to
1996 and helped that institution create its graphic design program.
Morin has won several awards for his artwork and many accepted into exhibits including the Art Gallery
of the USSR in Moscow, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Overture Center for the
Arts in Madison. His works can also be seen in public collections including the Library of Congress and
the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and the Victoria and Albert
Museum in London. He has given public presentations at the Academy of Art in Beijing and for the Design
Forum of the College Art Association in Washington, D.C., among others.
