UWSP’s ROTC commissioning ceremony this Sunday
Six students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) ROTC program will be commissioned as officers on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m., in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Justin Rueb, professor of psychology at UWSP, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Rueb previously taught at the academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Wright State University.
Cadet Jeff Schrimp of Woodbury, Minn., a senior majoring in Spanish, will be the master or ceremonies.
The six cadets to be commissioned include:
Kyle Bender of Wausau, a graduating senior majoring in business administration with minors in military science, accounting and economics will be commissioned into the Quartermaster Corps and is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division Support Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky. A recipient of a UWSP ROTC scholarship for the past three and a half years, he is a 2004 graduate of Newman High School.
James Gruenewald of Green Bay, a graduating senior majoring in biology with a minor in military science will be commissioned into the Medical Specialist Corps and will attend the Officer Basic Course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he will train as a physician’s assistant. He is a four-year recipient of a UWSP ROTC scholarship and a 2004 graduate of Ashwaubenon High School.
Abbey Paton of Sussex, a graduating senior majoring in biology with minors in chemistry and military science, will be commissioned into the Active Army and has been awarded an educational delay which she plans to use to further her education. For the past three and a half years she has been a recipient of a UWSP ROTC scholarship and is a 2004 graduate of Hamilton High School.
Lindsey Peplinski of Rosholt, a graduating senior majoring in corporate health and promotion with a minor in military science, will be commissioned into the Wisconsin Army National Guard Medical Command in Madison. She is a 2003 graduate of Rosholt High School.
Scott Schreiber of Hortonville, a graduating senior majoring in history with a minor in military science, will be commissioned into the Army Corps of Engineers and is assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. For the past two and a half years he has been a recipient of a UWSP ROTC scholarship and is a 2004 graduate of Weyauwega-Fremont High School.
Emily Urban of Mountain, a graduating senior majoring in political science with a minor in military science, will be commissioned into the Ordnance Corps and is assigned to Golf Company of the 132 Ordnance Corps of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. For the past three and a half years she has been a recipient of a UWSP ROTC scholarship and is a 2004 graduate of Suring High School.
