Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program Announces Earth Day Grants

The Wisconsin K-12 Environmental Education Program (KEEP), located at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has received a grant from the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board (WEEB) to provide financial support to educators in northeastern Wisconsin interested in conducting Earth Day energy-related projects.

April 22, 2000 is Earth Day and the National Earth Day Network has selected energy as this year’s theme. Earth Day is a successful catalyst for ongoing environmental education, action and change. KEEP can provide selected schools with between $500 and $1,000 for their Earth Day projects. Funding is available in two categories: general energy education and renewable energy education.

Other criteria for Earth Day projects in energy includes involving community members, and helping students develop leadership skills by providing first-hand citizen action experience.

The application deadline is February 21, 2000. For an application or more information on KEEP’s Earth Day grant contact energy education specialist Bobbi Zbleski at 715/346-4163 or at Bobbi.J.Zbleski@uwsp.edu.
