UWSP panel discusses separation of church and state in today�s America
A panel comprised of faculty and students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), as well as local clergy, will discuss the principal of the separation of church and state in today�s America. The panel discussion is open at no cost to the public and campus and will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 7 p.m. � 8:30 p.m., in the Alumni Room of the Dreyfus University Center.
The moderator will be Corinne Dempsey, professor of religious studies. Panelists will include John Blakeman, assistant professor of political science, Pat Kuhl, UWSP student representing Students for Free Thought and Pete Kruger, UWSP student representing the Wesley Society. In addition, Pastor Graham West of St. Paul�s United Methodist Church will also take part.
The struggle over the role of religion in the political life of the nation goes back to our founding fathers in the 17th century. That debate continues today at all levels of society. The panel will discuss the history of the principal, social and religious influences on policy, and the relevance of the issue in today�s society. Through personal and historical perspectives, they will share their views of the debate over separation of church and state.
