Final CNR fall colloquium series on "climate change" focuses on Wisconsin�s waters

A noted zoologist and climate expert from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be the final speaker in a series of colloquium forums, focusing on the timely issue of climate change. The series is sponsored by the College of Natural Resources (CNR) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The final colloquium lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. in CNR Room 170, will feature John Magnuson, emeritus professor of zoology and past director of the Center for Limnology at UW-Madison. His talk is titled "Changing Climate and Waters of Wisconsin."

Magnuson received his bachelor�s and master�s degrees from the University of Minnesota-St. Paul in fish and wildlife management. He then went on to the University of British Columbia, Canada, to receive his doctorate in zoology with a minor in oceanography.

In 1961, Magnuson worked in Honolulu as the chief of tuna behavior and physiology program for the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries Biological Laboratory. In 1975, he was the program director for the ecology program at the National Science Foundation in Washington, DC. From 1968-2000 he served as the director of the Center for Limnology at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He won the "Award of Excellence" and the "Lifetime Achievement Award."

His talk will be about the changing climate and its effect on the water in Wisconsin. Topics he will discuss are lake ice cover, the water cycle and fishes. The presentation is open to the public without charge.
