New UWSP Foreign Student Programs director named
A
doctoral candidate in higher education and student affairs at the Ohio State
University, who holds a master�s degree in teaching English as a Second Language
(ESL), is the new director of Foreign Student Programs at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Brad Van Den Elzen of Columbus, Ohio, will come to UWSP next summer to succeed longtime director and community activist Marc Fang, who retired. Van Den Elzen has taught English at two universities in Hunan, China, as well as instructing ESL courses with the American Language Program at Ohio State. Since 2001 he has served as a graduate administrative associate with the program, overseeing recruitment and providing academic and co-curricular advising.
He has volunteered with the Denison University International Student Host Family Program, assisted United Arab Emirates scholarship recipients, worked with the Office of International Education at OSU, and advised students in the Integrated Liberal Studies Program at UW-Madison.
A member of the National Association of International Educators, the American College Personnel Association, and the Association for the Study of Higher Education, Van Den Elzen has presented papers both nationally and internationally and recently co-authored a journal article based on his master�s thesis research.
