Senior trumpet recital at UW-Stevens Point

Jazz trumpet player Marlin McKay will perform in a senior recital at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Sunday, Feb. 29.

The 7:30 p.m. performance in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center will be open to the public free of charge.

The program will include "When You Wish Upon a Star" by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington and "Whoopin� Blues" by Louis Armstrong. Other pieces arranged by Marlin include Charlie Parker�s "Red Cross," "Bye Bye Blackbird" by Dixon and Henderson, and "Polkadots and Moonbeams" by Burke and Van Huesen. Marlin also will perform "Reach," an original piece he composed for his daughter.

Marlin will be accompanied by Mathew Buchman, director of jazz studies, and a 10-piece string section.

McKay, son of Michael McKay and Melanie Davis, 5309 Allen St., Amarillo, Texas, graduated from Tascosa High School. At UWSP he is majoring in jazz studies with a performance emphasis and performs in the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. Honored with the Worth Company Jazz Scholarship, he is already working on his next recital that will feature classical music performed in jazz style.
