DErcole to give recital at UW-Stevens Point

Violinist Patricia DErcole will give two performances of a faculty recital on Sunday, Feb. 8, in Marshfield and Sunday, Feb. 15, in Stevens Point.

The Feb. 8 performance will be at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield without charge.

The second recital will be in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Part of the Music Scholarship Series, admission to the concert is $6 for the general public, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with UWSP IDs. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, online at https://tickets.uwsp.edu/Wt3/, or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.

DErcole will be accompanied by Department of Music faculty members Ann Marie Novak on piano, Kyoko Fuller on violin and Lawrence Leviton on cello.

A senior Suzuki specialist at the American Suzuki Talent Education Center (ASTEC), DErcole will dedicate these recitals to the memory of her instructor and friend, Margery V. Aber, who would have celebrated her 90th birthday on Feb. 15. Selections for the program were chosen for their ties to Aber and will be performed on an antique instrument that once belonged to the late violinist.

Aber is credited with making UWSP one of the countrys foremost centers for the advancement of Suzuki Talent Education. She was well known for the great influence she had on the lives of her students and colleagues.

At both performances DErcole will perform Dvoraks "Sonatina, Opus 100," J.S. Bachs "Sonata No. 3 in C", "Etude in G minor" by Wieniawski, two of Glieres Eight Duets for violin and cello, "La Capricieuse" by Elgar, "Nocturne in C sharp minor by Chopin and Milstein, and Wieniawskis "Scherzo-Tarantella.

In addition to being a Senior Suzuki Specialist at ASTEC, DErcole has been the chair of the board of directors of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and a contributing writer for the American Suzuki Journal. She has taught in the United States, Canada, Finland, Peru, and Chile. Before coming to Stevens Point she founded and directed the Flambeauland Suzuki Talent Education program in Ladysmith and taught instrumental music in the Maywood, Ill., public schools.
