Concert Band to perform at UWSP

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Concert Band will perform in the Noel Fine Arts Center on Thursday, March 2.

The event will be held in Michelsen Hall at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, admission is $6.75 for the general public, $3.75 for senior citizens, $2.75 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with UWSP IDs. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378 or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.

The program will feature works from classical and contemporary composers including Nicholas Rimsky-Korsokav, Clare Grundman, David Maslanka, Charles Ives and J.S. Bach.

The UWSP Concert Band is comprised of dedicated students pursuing degrees or minors in music. The ensemble meets twice a week to rehearse under the direction of Scott Teeple, associate professor of music and director of Bands at UWSP. This will be the first Concert Band performance of the spring semester.

Teeple also conducts the UWSP Wind Ensemble and teaches conducting and music education courses. Before coming to UWSP, he was the assistant director of bands at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He conducted the Michigan Youth Band, had frequent appearances with the Symphony and Concert Bands, taught music education and served as assistant director of the Marching Band. Teeple has served as director of bands at Port Huron Northern High School and as a clinician and conductor for honors bands throughout the United States. He has been part of the faculty at St. Clair County Community College, worked on the brass staff of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, and taught low brass for the All-State program at Interlochen.
