UWSP faculty members to perform on Classical period instruments

Music faculty members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will present a recital to the public on Sunday, February 10.

The recital will feature Andrea Splittberger-Rosen and Michael Keller, both professors of music. Splittberger-Rosen will perform on a six-key clarinet made of boxwood and Keller will play a fortepiano, both replicas of instruments used during the Classical period of music.

The concert, part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts Center. The cost is $6 for the general public, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UWSP ID. Tickets are available at University Information and Tickets in the Dreyfus University Center concourse, or by calling (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378. Visa, MasterCard or Discover are accepted. Tickets may also be purchased at the door if seats are available.

The recital features sonatas from the classical period including "Sonata No. 5" by Jean Xavier Lefevre and "Sonata in B Flat" by Johann Baptist Vanahl. Splittberger-Rosen and Keller will premiere "Sonata for Boxwood Clarinet and Fortepiano," written by Aaron Marx, a UWSP alumnus and associate professor of music, and "Dance for Clarinet and Piano," also by Marx.

The recital will also include clarinet duets featuring Spilttberger-Rosen and UWSP alumna, Jenni Nicewander Yang.
