Horn player to serve residency at UWSP

A horn player and regents professor of music at the University of North Texas will serve a two-day residency at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, culminating in a horn recital on Sunday, April 13.

William Scharnberg will be on campus April 12 and 13, hosted by the UWSP Horn Studio. During his visit, he will present a master class to UWSP students, adjudicate a mock orchestral audition and give lessons to horn majors.

The recital will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday in room 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The program includes "Alla Caccia" by Alan Abbott, "Dido’s Lament" from "Dido and Aeneas" by Henry Purcell, "Appel Interstellaire (Interstellar Call)" from "Des Canyons aux Etoiles (The Canyon to the Stars)" by Olivier Messian, "Nocturno, Op. 7" by Franz Strauss, "Sonatina" by Jan Koetsier and "Happy Blues" by Zsolt Nagy. Scharnberg will be accompanied by Associate Professor Molly Roseman on piano.

Scharnberg has taught horn, chamber music and brass pedagogy at the University of North Texas since 1983. He is principal horn of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, performing in over 80 operas. He has performed as the principal horn and as a soloist for orchestras and symphonies in the United States, Sweden and Austria and at international horn symposia and events. He has recordings on the Crystal, Centaur and EcoClassics labels and he has published works through McCoy’s Horn Library. He has served as the president of the International Horn Society Editor and is currently editor of its journal.
