Student wins full tuition scholarship

A Cudahy student received a full-tuition scholarship for the 2004-05 academic year at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Amanda Lewin, Cudahy, a freshman music education major and trumpet student, is the first recipient of the $6,000 Andrew Naumann/Schilke Music Products Honorary Robert Kase Scholarship. Recipients are chosen by Kase, a professor and chair of UWSPs Music Department, through audition and essay. Winners must play the trumpet as a primary instrument and maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

Lewin, the daughter of Sara Lewin, Cudahy, and Mike Lewin, Brown Deer, is a 2004 graduate of Cudahy High School. At UWSP she is a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Womens Choir. In addition to the Naumann Scholarship, she received a Sentry Insurance Academic Leadership Scholarship. She volunteers with the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference.

Naumann created the annual scholarship through a recent $60,000 pledge to UWSPs Department of Music in honor of Kase. A 1992 alumnus of UWSP, Naumann is owner and president of Schilke Music Products, Inc., the world leader in the design and manufacture of trumpets and brass mouthpieces, located in Chicago. He also founded and owns Naumann Trumpets, Inc., a manufacturer of historical replications of Baroque (valveless) trumpets from the 16th and 17th centuries.
