Business counseling offered over distance for Oneida and Vilas county residents
Business owners, managers and entrepreneurs wont have to travel to Stevens Point in order to benefit from one-on-one business counseling with experts of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) based at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Extension Office.
An Internet video link between the SBDC office in Stevens Point and the Oneida County Economic Development office, based in the lower level of the Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport on Highway 8, allows face-to-face interaction with SBDC business counselors. This service is free and confidential for those within the SBDCs nine-county area, which extends south from Vilas County to Adams County.
Polycom cameras in both locations allow the client and counselor to see each other over the Internet. Technology at both locations was upgraded to ensure a smooth connection, says Lobermeier.
"This enhancement helps us serve our clients better," said SBDC Counselor Vicki Lobermeier, "and it allows us to have access to all of the resources in our office when answering questions."
SBDC business counselors share information and expertise with small business owners as well as those looking to start a new business, covering topics such as marketing, personnel policies, financial planning and business management.
To make an appointment, contact the UW-Extension Resource Agent in Oneida County at 715-365-2750, Jim Kumbera at the Economic Development Office at 715-369-9110 or UW-Extension in Vilas County at 715-479-3648.
The SBDC at UWSP, one of 13 in the state, also offers workshops, seminars, customized training and GIS mapping for marketing. UWSP Extension is the center of continuing education and lifelong learning at UWSP. The organization provides credit classes, degree completion programs, conference planning, contract training and an array of personal and professional development programs for business and industry, youth, working adults and special audiences.
