UWSP speaker to give tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.

An authority on the life and works of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. will give a presentation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, February 1.

Barry Scott will recreate some of the activist’s most famous speeches in The Theatre in the Dreyfus University Center at 7 p.m. The tribute, sponsored by Centertainment Productions, is free and open to the public.

In addition to the speeches, Scott discusses King and the civil rights movement. His portrayal is so convincing that the late Coretta Scott King once cornered him between acts and complimented him on his realistic and honest depiction of her late husband.

A native of Nashville, Scott has performed King’s speeches for President Carter and in performing arts centers and college campuses across the country. He is the founder and artistic director of The American Negro Playwright Theatre.
