Visual arts course offered at UWSP for K-12 teachers

An independent study course in visual arts for K-12 teachers will be offered this summer through the Continuing Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Art 398/796, Classroom Applications in the Visual Arts, will be held Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, August 6, in the Noel Fine Arts Center at UWSP.

The class will meet formally as a group twice during the summer, with individual meetings arranged on an as-needed basis. The group meetings will provide an instant think tank of ideas, with decades of combined experience in the classroom. Participants may also work on their own studio projects with the benefit of peer and UWSP faculty input.

Those registering for the class will submit a detailed outline of the project or projects that will be undertaken. The independent work will begin when the outline has been approved. The dates of the group meetings will be announced.

Instructor Rob Stolzer is a professor and chair of the Department of Art and Design at UWSP. Before he came to campus in 1989, he taught drawing and illustration at The Glassell School of Art in Houston, Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Rutger’s University in New Jersey and Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.

Stolzer also worked as a freelance illustrator and studio artist, and earned degrees from the Mason School of Art at Rutger’s University and Tyler School of Art and Temple University. He served residencies in Houston, Texas, Johnson, Vermont, and Tokoname, Japan.
