Alumna to present lecture on climate change
A 1998 alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) will present a lecture about climate change on Friday, October 12.
Jenny Baeseman, a climate researcher and former biology professor at Kent State University, will present "The Truth about Climate Change: What it Means to You" at 3:30 p.m. in Room 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The lecture is open to the public, free of charge, and is sponsored by the UWSP College of Natural Resources and Alumni Association.
Baeseman is one of 1,000 volunteers chosen by former vice president Al Gore to spread awareness about the effects of global warming as part of The Climate Project,
www.theclimateproject.org."Our main goal is to educate," Baeseman said of The Climate Project. "There are many things we can do to slow global warming, from using fluorescent light bulbs to hanging your clothes outside instead of using a dryer."
She is also involved in the International Polar Year, a scientific program focused on research in the Arctic and Antarctic in 2007-08, and is currently researching climate change in Alaska. She has also participated in three research trips to Antarctica. In addition, she is involved in the Decade of Environmental Decisions project, which encourages people to make environmental decisions that add up to significant global change.
Baeseman earned a doctorate degree at the University of Colorado and conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University. She is also a member of the UWSP Alumni Association Board of Directors.
