Several fine arts classes are being offered for youth this summer through the Arts and Culture Outreach program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).

Two art classes, taught by Linda Mathes, will meet on the UWSP campus from July 21-31, Monday through Thursdays except for Thursday, July 24. Both classes are seven sessions and cost $69 for materials and instruction. Mathes has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

  • "Mixed Media Masterpieces" meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Students ages 8-11 will create projects for everyday use or decoration from mixed media elements including fabrics, beads, mosaic supplies and more. Three dimensional and paper projects will stretch imaginative minds and creative hands.

  • Five dance and theatre classes will be held on the UWSP campus and taught by Juliann Engum, who holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from UW-Milwaukee. These classes are offered July 21-31, Monday through Thursday, for a total of eight sessions.

  • "Beginning Movement: Music and Motion," is for ages 3-5 and will be held from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. Preschoolers who love to dance will enjoy creative movement and exploration that promotes learning skills for young children, while providing a solid foundation for further dance studies. The cost is $45.

  • "Introduction to Dance," is for ages 5-7 and is offered from 12:45-1:15 p.m. This beginning ballet class is an introduction to dance steps and movements for young, novice dancers. The cost is $45.

  • "Kidstage" is offered from 1:30-2:30 p.m. for ages 8-11. Students will explore the world of theatre and dramatic skills through theatre games, storytelling and skits while cultivating their imagination, self expression, self confidence and teamwork. The cost is $79.

  • "Jazz Dance for Kids," held from 2:45-3:45 p.m. is for ages 8-11 and is a high energy, rhythmic and theatrical dance class for the first time or continuing dance student. The cost is $79.
