UWSP Student Government Association moves progressively toward
a more sustainable campus

Stevens Point, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Student Government Association (SGA) recently passed legislation in support of the use of 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper in the University of Wisconsin System.

The SGA said that UWSP is known nationwide as a beacon of environmental and sustainability and that the resolution resounds well with that theme. As it stands, the UWSP campus uses more than 85,400 pounds of paper at the cost of 1,464 trees per year. By using 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper, all of the trees needed to create that much paper would be saved, as no new trees are needed to create 100 percent post-recycled paper.

The UWSP Master Plan and Chancellor Bunnell’s "Vision 2015" stress the importance of sustainability. SGA notes that its resolution is in line with those documents, and urges the endorsement of the United Council of University of Wisconsin Students (UC.)

If this legislation is passed through the UC, the UC can recommend that 100 percent post-consumer paper usage initiatives be adopted not only at UWSP but also throughout the entire UW System.
