Early childhood professionals conference to
be held Saturday at UWSP
"Renew Your Passion" is the theme of the seventh annual Leading the
Way Early Childhood Professionals Conference to be held at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday, September 26.
Former Green Bay Packer Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (KGB) will give the
closing keynote address. His talk will focus on brain development
and how the first three years of life are critical. The way a
child's brain develops is greatly influenced by what he or she
experiences during that period. The public is invited to attend his
presentation at 2:50 p.m. in Room 101 of the Collins Classroom
Center.
Hosted by UWSP's Helen R. Godfrey University Child and Learning and
Care Center (HRGUCLCC), the conference will be held from 8 a.m. -
4:30 p.m. in the Collins Classroom Center. Workshops throughout the
day will cover topics on conflict resolution, social emotional
development, before and after school program ideas, sign language
for babies, using art and games to build social skills, current
state initiatives in child care licensing, and improving child care
recordkeeping.
Other conference sponsors include the Heart of Wisconsin United Way,
Child Care Resource and Referral of Central Wisconsin, Mid-Wisconsin
Child Care Resource and Referral, Portage County Child Care
Association, Wisconsin Rapids Child Care Advocates Council, and the
Waushara County Safe and Stable Families. Contact: Susie Sprouse,
