Fall outings, workshops at Schmeeckle
Reserve
Discover wildlife, nature and history through a variety of programs
this October at Schmeeckle Reserve at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Open to the public free of charge, the
following programs are led by UWSP students and held at the
Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center on North Point Drive near the
Michigan Avenue intersection. For more information or to register,

- This Wondrous White-tailed Deer, Saturday, November 15, 2-3 p.m.
Explore Schmeeckle Reserve for the symbol of Wisconsin wildlife and
discover how the white-tailed deer has shaped our state’s management
practices. Dress for the weather.
- The Life and Times of a Soda Can, Thursday, November 20, 7-8 p.m.
Ever wonder what happened to the soda can you recycled? Come follow a
soda can from the time it leaves the store shelf through the recycling
plant and back to the store.
- Pumpkins, Squash & Corn, Oh My!, Saturday, November 22, 1-2 p.m.
The fall harvest season has been an important times of year for many
cultures throughout Central Wisconsin. Discover how people have relied
on this seasonal change for survival, livelihood and sustenance. Come
taste the flavor of the farmers’ labor over this past season.
- Lighting the Way, Saturday, December 6, 2-3 p.m. Ever wonder what
makes the university campus glow? Take a trip on the energy time machine
to explore the past, present and future of UWSP’s energy plan.
- The Green Circle Trail, Monday, December 8, 7-8 p.m. The Green
Circle Trail has been an icon in Stevens Point for 19 years. Travel
through time and learn of the commitment and dedication of regular
citizens that has grown into one of the best urban recreation spaces
in the area.
Schmeeckle Reserve is a 265-acre nature preserve on the north end of
the UWSP campus. The Visitor Center Browse Shop has gifts for all
ages, including a wide variety of nature books and field guides. It
is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
