Classical pianist to present guest recital
at UWSP
A Wisconsin Rapids native and past recipient of the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Laird Leader in the Arts Award will
present a guest piano recital at UWSP on Thursday, November 20.
John Milbauer, an assistant professor of piano at the University of
Arizona School of Music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall
in the Noel Fine Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the
public.
Thursday’s program will include works by G. F. Handel, Mario
Davidovsky, Claude Debussy, Frederic Chopin and Bela Bartok.
Milbauer will also lead a master class for UWSP music students on
Friday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Milbauer has performed frequently across the Americas, Europe and
Asia and his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television
stations on three continents. He is a frequent guest at music
festivals such as the Banff Centre, Ernen Musikdorf, Chautauqua
Music Festival, Music Academy of the West and Escuela Moderna in
Chile. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras in New York,
California, Wisconsin and Canada, and has collaborated with members
of the Metropolitan Opera, National Symphony, National Orchestra of
France, Los Angeles Philharmonic and New York Theatre Ballet.
He has won prizes from The Julliard School, Institute for
International Education and Hungarian Ministry of Culture. He was a
semifinalist in the 2006 Orlans Concours for piano music of the 20th
century and has premiered works by living composers.
He spent two years at Harvard College prior to earning degrees from
the Eastman School of Music, The Julliard School, Manhattan School
of Music and, as a recipient of a Fulbright grant, the Liszt Academy
in Budapest. He has taught at Humboldt State University, California
State University-Chico and the Chautauqua Institute.
