UWSP Wordmark
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is Stevens Point?

A: Stevens Point is a small city near the middle of the state of Wisconsin in the beautiful north woods. It's about 100 miles north of Madison, 30 miles south of Wausau, 90 miles west of Green Bay and 110 miles east of Eau Claire.

Q: What if I don't include my Social Security number?

A: If you have a Social Security number, we ask you to include it on your application. Your number will help us track your success in school. It is important to show your success in school so that the scholarship program will continue to be funded. If you do not have a Social Security number, please write a brief explanation, such as "none", "applied for," etc. You will still be considered for the program regardless of whether or not you have a Social Security number.

Q: How much money do I need to bring with me?

A: All of the program costs are covered by the DPI scholarship for students who are eligible. You may wish to bring a small amount of spending money for personal items, but we do not recommend that students bring large amounts of cash to camp.

Q: What if my application arrives at UWSP after the deadline?

A: Late applications might not be considered if the program is already filled, so please apply early. Every year there are more students who apply to the program than there are DPI scholarships to attend. That is why it is very important that you submit your application by the deadline, to be sure you will be considered with all the other applicants.

Q: What are my chances of being accepted?

A: Better than 50/50 most years. Unfortunately there are usually more applicants than there are scholarships. Some students who are accepted cannot attend and then we give their place to a student on the waiting list. If you still haven't been accepted by the third week of May you can phone or email Marcia Mace and ask how high you are on the waiting list.

Q: When will applicants know whether they are invited to attend this summer program?

A: Each student who applied will be sent a letter, telling them if they have been accepted or if they are on the waiting list. Those letters will be mailed by May 13th, 2011.
