Position: Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences

Position Description:
Duties involve teaching a variety of undergraduate courses within the mathematics education curriculum, especially courses for future elementary education teachers. These courses are developed with an integration of mathematics and mathematics education content, and are taught in a laboratory situation using the NCTM Standards to model the teaching for elementary, middle and/or secondary schools.  Depending on interest and staffing needs, the teaching assignment may include various undergraduate mathematics courses.  In addition, scholarly activity, professional growth, and university service are required for retention and tenure. A typical teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester with two preparations.

Department/University Description:
The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers majors in Mathematics, Mathematics with Actuarial Emphasis, and Mathematics Education.  It includes 26 faculty members with about 130 majors. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a comprehensive regional university with approximately 9,000 undergraduate and 240 graduate students. The four academic colleges offer over 120 program choices within 48 majors, plus 78 minors and 10 graduate programs. Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or education awarded before August 2011 (ABD candidates will be considered).  Demonstrated interest and/or experience teaching mathematics/mathematics education courses for elementary education majors is required.  A specialty in mathematics education will be preferred.  K-12 teaching experience and/or preparation in the elementary/middle school curriculum is desirable.  Experience in undergraduate teaching is preferred; a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching is required.  Experience teaching diverse groups will be considered a plus. 

Appointment Date: August 2011

Terms of Employment:
Full-time, tenure track at the Assistant Professor level (Instructor if Ph.D. not completed)
