Week 5 - Monday, February 27 or Wednesday, February 29
THE PHYSICAL DIMENSION Continued
TOPIC: Fitness and Exercise
Enduring Understanding: Activity or Exercise
is ONE
THING that positively affects every facet of the human being...it
is the "magic
pill" everyone is looking for. Physical movement (whatever kind you can
do) enables our bodies, minds, and spirits to keep moving forward. We must
move (physically, mentally, spiritually) to thrive.
Therefore, a goal
in the physical dimension is to make sense of how to support your body....to
fuel it and move it in a way that then supports you to become stronger
and healthier in every dimension. You should be able to describe and evaluate what it means
for you to be
physically fit and be able to recognize challenges and barriers to becoming
more physically active. Finding ways to address those challenges is the
desired outcome.
What We’ll Cover In Class:
- Benefits of fitness – why do we need to pay attention to all aspects of
fitness
- How can you know if you are fit?
- What enables you to be active?
- What are barriers to you being as active as you need to be?
- Introduce the Informed Consent form in class.
Assignments for the Week
- Take quiz in D2L (open
Monday, February 27, 12:01 a.m. until Sunday, March 4 @ Midnight). The quiz will
cover Chapter 4-The Joy of Fitness and concepts
on fitness and exercise presented in class this week.
- Look for ways to apply what you are learning and reading in intrinsic
ways.
-
Make
an appointment for a
fitness
assessment by signing up on the link below. Signing up for the appointment is
available from Monday, February 27 until Friday, March 30, 2012 at
midnight.
Signing up by this
due date will earn you 3,000 points (see page
Overview of
Assignments (Healthy American Class). Make your
appointment before you leave for spring break so you won't forget to do it
when you get back! After this date you will not get points for
"making the appointment". Completing the
fitness test earns you another 3000 points.
Notice on the table of assignments that making an appointment and
keeping the appointment to get tested are 2 SEPARATE assignments
with separate due dates. You are being rewarded for completing the
assignment within the preferred time period. The
fitness assessment
must be completed by April 30, 2012.
During the first week, you completed a Fitness Medical Release Form that
was evaluated by a team of physicians to give you clearance to have your
fitness assessed. Signup for a fitness assessment is done online but you
will not be permitted to sign up until your Fitness Medical Clearance form
is on file with the Health Services Office. IF YOU WERE NOT
PRESENT IN CLASS TO BE CLEARED BY A PHYSICIAN DURING WEEK 2 YOU MUST MAKE AN
APPOINTMENT AT THE HEALTH SERVICES OFFICE TO BE CLEARED.
Appointments cannot be made until the schedule is ready, usually about the
fourth week of class
To sign up for your
