Zuge, UWSP Information Security Officer
Peter, who attended UWSP and has been employed in IT for 10 years, gave a detailed, informative presentation & printout. Some highlights:
· The real-life harrowing example of George Mason University (VA) being hacked, resulting in their reluctant email warning to over 32,000 students, faculty and staff that they were all vulnerable to identity theft, credit card fraud, etc.
· A brief history of the Internet and its security issues
· Creation of the Information Security Team, which now takes the lead in current UWSP computing security issues
o Their approach to Information Security
§ Handle immediate threats to keep data, computers and the network safe
§ Non-immediate threats (good security practices)
The Committee thanked Peter for his presentation and noted it as a possible brown-bag topic.
COMMITTEES
· SPECIAL EVENTS
o “Cats” details are being finalized. Members voted to offer the $45/seat option which, though not front row, are more centered than the $55 ones (it was noted that there are no bad seats in the Appleton Performing Arts Center)

o With the second mailing, 69 of 355 surveys were returned. Among the most notable:
· CWES, NFAC and the new UC when it’s completed
· Dozens of brown-bag topics
· 1 complaint: CSAC activities too social- vs. professional-oriented (duly noted but not discussed as it comprised 1.4% of replies)
· SARGIS
o 17 nominations, 3 have declined
o From previous discussions/recollections it is understood that recent (fiscal year) retirees are eligible, however, this and other policies found not to be clear and documented will be, by the Sargis Committee
· CAMPUS COMMITTEES have been idle since last meeting.
· Interest was high for these two openings:
o There is a new Classified Staff Mentor Coordinator, Janis Borski
o There is a new member on the Classified Staff Grant Support Committee, Becca Franzen
· CABINET
o Tom Miller, legislative representative, gave a presentation
OTHER
