Academic Staff - Spirit of Community Service

UWSP Academic Staff Spirit of Community Service Award stresses the importance of service in building and contributing to a healthier community environment on and off campus.  Awards will be provided to an academic staff member (Category A or C) for their contributions made in any of the following areas: mental, social, physical, emotional, intellectual, vocational, spiritual/philosophical, and/or environmental.

The 2011 recipient of the Spirit of Community Service Award is John Heusinkveld, College of Natural Resources, Assistant Director for the Treehaven Education and Conference Center.  John has served UW-Stevens Point and the area community for the past 10 years.  This year's nominators cite his on- and off-campus commitment to our community:

"...through John's role at Trehaven, he has touched the lives of thousands of people over this past decade by helping them learn and develop a healthy appreciation of our environment and healthy life values."

"[John] is the smile on Treehaven's face. He is ever present to those teaching, visiting or participating in all that Treehaven has to offer."

"[John] has contributed to many student successes through his leadership and teaching."
