Mosinee Hill, Rib Mountain, and Little Rib Mountain define a semicircle of quartzite monadnocks. The arc has led some geologists to speculate that they may have subsided into the magma chamber of the Wolf River Batholith.

There's precious little exposure in road cuts but the abundant float and physiography of the hill make it easy to surmise the extent of the quartzite.
