A Soil Order is the highest level of classification in the USDA Comprehensive Soil Classification System. Soil orders are distinguished on the basis of diagnostic horizons.  (See also andisol, alfisol, spodosol, aridisol, mollisol, ultisol, oxisol, inceptisol, entisol, histosol)
