WHERE TO GO DURING SEVERE WEATHER ON THE UWSP CAMPUS

ALERTS

In all cases, you should seek shelter inside a campus building. Go to interior spaces, if possible on the lowest floor. Avoid rooms having large unsupported ceilings that are likely to collapse, and stay as far away from windows and stairwells as you can. Do not use elevators. If you do not have time to reach lower floors, go into a small interior room such as a shower stall or closet.

If you are outside (parking lots, athletic fields, Schmeeckle Reserve, etc.) when the warnings sound, proceed immediately to the nearest secure building if there is time. Do not remain in vehicles or trailers. If you haven't time to reach a building then move into the lowest nearby location, preferably with some overhead protection such as a culvert or dense shrubbery (but NOT tall trees!). Do not seek shelter underneath moveable objects such as vehicles or picnic tables; even a weak tornado can toss them like shoeboxes, and possibly crush them on top of you. Once the windstorm passes, leave the low area--flash flooding remains a threat afterward! Be careful if you must do any walking; wear shoes as there will likely be much sharp debris, and be extremely watchful for downed electrical wires. See the related risks page.

If there are injuries, first aid will be available after the storm at Health Services (Delzell Hall), the Protective Services Office (Stein Building), St. Michaels Hospital (900 Illinois Ave.), and the Stevens Point Fire Station (1701 Franklin St.). DO NOT TRY TO MOVE A SEVERELY INJURED PERSON! Stay with them, keep them warm and quiet, and send the first passerby to seek help at one of the above locations.

As soon as possible, report to your dorm coodinator, instructor, or work center supervisor. It will be important that they be able to QUICKLY account for and report on all persons in their area, so as to obtain sufficient assistance and (if necessary) to begin searches for missing persons.

PLEASE HELP; COMPLY IMMEDIATELY WITH ANY REQUEST FROM PROTECTIVE SERVICES OR EMERGENCY RESPONSE PERSONNEL
